Tech Shanghai Advocates aim to be the largest network of various tech leaders, including start-ups, entrepreneurs, founders, investors, established tech co-leaders, mentors, accelerators, experts and policy makers, working together to grow the East and South China tech sector. Through conventions, communications, and working groups, Tech Shanghai Advocates provides entrepreneurs, and tech professionals with access to Advocates around the world.

Tech Shanghai Advocates’ vision is to be the leading driving force and global ecosystem platform for tech collaboration and growth in both China and cross-border level, as well as, to be the gateway to/from other global tech hubs, exerting competitive advantages in technological innovation, talent aggregation, globalisation, and financial centre of Shanghai, championing the East and South China as a global tech, innovation and capital hub internationally.

Tech Shanghai Advocates’ mission is to expedite the transformation and upgrading of technology for companies in East, South and even whole China, through connecting the technology, enterprises and capital worldwide. Tech Shanghai Advocate strives to fully leverage the resources and support across the strong global networks formed by Global Tech Advocate (GTA), by stimulating collaboration across the GTA global tech ecosystem, among start-ups and investors, corporates, the public sector, universities worldwide.

JOHN ZAI, FOUNDER and Chairman of Tech Shanghai Advocates

Mr. John Zai is the Founder and Head of Tech Shanghai Advocates, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cocoon Networks, the first and the largest Chinese-capital backed international start-up ecosystem. In addition, John is also the Founder and the Chairman of the British Chinese Young Entrepreneurs Association (BCYEA), the largest Chinese start-up community in Britain. John brings extensive experiences to start-up companies who want to expand internationally through his previous business activities between China and the UK. Prior to founding Cocoon Networks, John worked as an Investor Relationship Director at Hanxin Capital.

John has been very active in venture capital investment focusing on supporting the growth of technology start-up companies in Europe and China. He has developed an extensive network that helps to bridge the start-up communities between the UK and China. Over the years, John has worked with government organisations and institutions such as Chinese Communist Youth League (a leading Chinese national organization that has contributed numerous number of top echelon leaders of the Chinese government, such as the current Premier Li Keqiang, and the former Paramount Leader Hu Jintao), the Wuhan municipal government, and the Shanghai Municipal government, the UKTI; the world’s leading universities such as University of Cambridge, Imperial College, University of East Anglia, and Tsinghua University; and built connections with many of the world’s most leading accelerators and venture capital houses including Tus Holdings, IDG Capital, SoftBank, and Shenzhen Capital Group.

Being a serial-entrepreneur himself, John previously founded businesses in international luxury goods trading, international organic food trading, real estate, and management consulting.

Global Tech Advocates

Global Tech Advocates (GTA) is a not-for-profit organisation which licenses a business model to companies who want to create private sector led communities of tech ecosystems in different parts of the world.
A key aim of GTA is to promote important, world-leading tech ecosystems and connect the diverse tech leaders, experts and professionals in each of its ‘sibling’ networks to other international tech networks. All Advocates in each community are volunteers who have a passion and enthusiasm for building and supporting tech communities.

GTA is the parent company of Tech London Advocates, Tech North Advocates, Tech Belfast Advocates, Tech Bay Area Advocates, Tech Nordic Advocates, Tech Singapore advocates, as well as Tech Shanghai Advocates.
